Wire shelving is a simple, sturdy adaptable solution to a range of storage needs. Wire shelves come in different lengths and widths, and are adjustable to any height you choose. Wire shelving is available in packages containing all the components you need or available separately, enabling you to buy as many or as few as you need.
Poles
Wire shelving poles are available in a variety of heights, and come in uniform thicknesses that fit into shelves of various lengths and widths. They have notches at regular intervals to enable you to install shelves levelly at whatever height you choose, using the notches on one pole as reference when adjusting the others. Wire shelving poles are tipped with either rubber or plastic to keep from damaging floors, or they may come with casters to facilitate mobility.
Shelves
Shelves for wire storage racks are made up of thin, evenly spaced bars braced by other bars running at right angles. They have holes at their four corners through which you insert the poles in order to raise or lower the shelves to the height you desire.
Wire shelves are light and also sturdy, and they provide the benefit of ventilation, which is important when storing perishable items, such as food. Some types of wire shelves can hold as much as 800 pounds per shelf.
Shelf Clips
Wire shelving units use plastic shelf clips to lock their shelves in place once you have adjusted them to the desired height. These come in sets of two parts that fit together like a jigsaw puzzle at the spot on the pole where you have chosen to hang your shelf, creating added diameter that keeps shelves from sliding down.
