Wire Mesh Oven Hood Vent Filter

Datetime:2013-06-25 Hits:

Oven hood vents help reduce odors and grease while cooking. The underside of the vent hood is equipped with a wire mesh filter to capture airborne grease. Over time, the buildup of grease in the filter can reduce its effectiveness and may begin to emit unpleasant odors. Cleaning the filter is a two-step process that takes about two hours, so plan a time to clean the part when you won't be using the oven hood.

1
Slide out the filter in its wire frame from the underside of the oven hood. The rectangular filter slides in and out of two tracks attached to the bottom of the hood.

2
Place the stopper for your kitchen sink in the drain and set the filter in the sink. Saturate the filter with liquid degreasing detergent before filling the sink with enough hot water to cover the filter. Soak the part until the grease loosens and dissolves from the filter.

3
Drain the sink and rinse the filter under hot water to remove any residual degreaser.

4
Set the filter in the top rack of your dishwasher and run the appliance on the heavy-duty cycle. Do not add degreasing detergent to the dishwasher, which will cause the solution to foam and potentially leak out of the appliance. Let the filter air dry.

5
Slide the filter back into the tracks beneath the oven hood.
