Room Essentials 5 Shelf Assembly Instructions
Installing shelving is one of the fastest and most dramatic ways to change the look of your home. You have a wide range of shelving options available to you including prefabricated shelving units. Fortunately, the basic steps of installation across these various types are similar. After studying a basic set of assembly instructions in conjunction with the instructions provided by the manufacturer, you are ready to install your home shelving.
1. Locate the studs in the desired installation wall using the stud finder. Mark the location of the studs with the pencil for future reference.
2. Attach the included brackets of the shelving to the shelf itself, spacing them the same distance apart as the wall studs if possible. If the holes for the brackets are not predrilled, predrill them using a drill bit slightly smaller in diameter than the wood screws you will be using. Fasten the brackets to the shelf securely with wood screws.
3. Hold the assembled shelf up to the wall and determine the best position in relation to the studs. Mark the desired screw locations with pencil by poking the pencil through the bracket holes. Predrill the holes for the wood screws using a drill bit with a diameter slightly smaller than the wood screws.
4. Drill each screw in partway until all the screws have been partially installed. Push the shelf flush with the wall and determine if the shelf is level by placing the carpenter's level on top of the shelf. Make any necessary adjustments to make sure the shelf is level in relation to the carpenter's level, but also level in relation to the other objects in the room.
5. Tighten the rest of the shelf screws until the shelf is flush with the wall. Recheck the shelf is level, and dust off the shelf.
