NORTH RIDGEVILLE — Three teens were arrested for breaking into Jaycox Road and Deborah Drive homes, according to Capt. Marti Garrow.
The son of the Jaycox road homeowner caught two 17-year-olds and an 18-year-old, identified as Allen Rister, breaking in about 2:30 p.m. June 11 and chased the Elyria teens out of the house.
One of the 17-year-olds grabbed a wire basket containing change from the house, but lost grip of it during the chase. Eight officers, including Garrow and Police Chief Mike Freeman, joined the pursuit. The 20 to 30 minute chase went through several yards, over fences and through pricker bushes, Garrow said. One 17-year-old was caught at a 6-foot tall fence on Elder Drive and the other 17-year-old was cornered in a soy bean field. Rister got away but turned himself in on June 14, police said.
Police found Rister’s mother’s 2003 Dodge parked on Deborah Drive and towed it. The teens were knocking on doors and asking people to cut their grass if they were home and had broken into a Deborah Drive house prior to heading over to Jaycox, Garrow said. One 17-year-old had a MP3 player and digital camera from the Deborah Drive home when police arrested him.
The 17-year-olds were charged with two juvenile counts of burglary, and obstructing official business. Rister is charged with two counts of burglary, one count of theft, obstructing official business and contributing to delinquency or unruliness of a minor, Garrow said. One 17-year-old was released to a guardian. The other had two warrants through another department and was taken to Lorain County Detention Home. Rister was taken to Lorain County Jail.
