Refinish Wire Shelves for an Fridge

Datetime:2014-05-23 Hits:

If you're planning to add a fresh finish to the wire shelves inside your recreational vehicle's refrigerator adhesion will prove difficult unless you thoroughly prepare the surface. Wire shelves accept new finishes poorly, because they are very slick and nonporous. Ensure strong adhesion by adding a special acidic etching agent to each shelf. Once the shelves are properly treated, they'll accept a new finish. Choose one specifically made for appliances or chipping and flaking will prove inevitable.

Instructions
1
Slip the shelves from the recreational vehicle's fridge and take them outdoors.

2
Scrub every part of the shelves with a degreaser using durable steel wool. Any sort of grease or grime will prevent the primer base from attaching; be thorough or chipping will result.

3
Rinse the shelves using a hose. Let each shelf dry under the sun for about an hour.

4
Set the shelves on a canvas drop cloth.

5
Coat each refrigerator shelf with galvanized metal-etching spray primer. Hold the can eight inches from each shelf as you spray left to right. Wait an hour before flipping each shelf over. Prime the other sides; let the shelves dry for three hours.

6
Coat each refrigerator shelf with appliance epoxy spray paint. Hold the can eight inches from each shelf as you spray left to right. Wait an hour before flipping each shelf over. Finish the other sides; let the shelves dry for three hours before reinserting them into the recreational vehicle's refrigerator.
