Metal Shelving Closet Ideas

Whether you're on a budget or have money to blow, installing a metal shelving system in your closet can make your life more organized. Metal shelves run the gamut from wire racks to highly polished kitchen shelves that you can see your reflection in, but not every shelf is perfect for your closet. Choose a shelving system that fits your needs, whether it's form, function or both.
One of the most common and inexpensive metal closet-shelving options, wire rack shelves come in a variety of sizes and lengths, from approximately two feet long to more than six feet long, and can be purchased at most home improvement and home retail stores. Choose from basic metal or white-laminate-covered metal for your closet design. Wire rack shelving attaches directly to the walls of your closet, and most systems include other options, such as metal poles for hanging clothes and wire baskets with a roll-out feature that works like a drawer.
Industrial Metal Shelving
If you have an open closet and a bedroom or kitchen with a modern or contemporary look, think about using open or closed industrial shelving to create a closet storage system. Typically used for heavy- duty storage in garages and warehouses, many industrial shelving units are made from polished stainless steel and have a high shine that could add just the look you want to your room. If, however, you have a lot of suits or clothes that require a hanger in your clothes closet, you might want to avoid the industrial look in your bedroom, since industrial shelving typically doesn't offer clothes-hanging solutions.
Combining Elements
If straight wire racks or industrial shelving doesn't quite meet your storage needs, mix it up. Many storage systems can be combined with elements from other storage systems from the same manufacturer. If you have a whole wall or room to use as a closet, combine industrial metal shelves with polished steel poles for hanging clothes, bags or hanging baskets and black wooden shelves for a unique modern closet system.
