Make a Wine Bottle Holder for Your Table

Datetime:2014-10-09 Hits:

If you need a wine bottle holder for your kitchen table, you can build your own with a few simple materials. Floating wine bottle holders have become a popular item. A piece of wood cut out at the right angles and dimensions can magically suspend your wine bottle with a little help from physics. Wine bottle holders make interesting centerpieces, and allow you to display your bottle of wine instead of keeping it locked away in a cabinet.

Instructions

1
Use a ruler to measure the angle for the base. Measure 14 1/8 inches from one end of the hardwood, and mark the spot with a pencil.

2
Draw a horizontal line across the face of the board. Using the previously marked spot, use a straight edge to create a horizontal line.

3
Turn the hardwood over. On the same end that you drew a horizontal line, create another horizontal line at 13 ¾ inches.

4
Turn the board on its side. Connect these two horizontal lines with a pencil.

5
Use a chop saw to cut the marked angle. Make sure that you make the angle exact. Take your time to make this precise cut.

6
Draw another horizontal line opposite of the angled edge. This horizontal line needs to be placed in the center of the wood approximately 3 1/8 inches from the top of your hardwood. Use a pencil to mark a vertical line 1 ¾ inches from one side to make a cross-hair.

7
Use a drill and carve out a hole with a 1 ½ inch drill bit. You will need to align the drill bit with the cross-hair.

8
Rub the medium sandpaper over the hole. Use the same grain sandpaper to smooth out any additional rough edges. Use the fine-grain sandpaper to smooth out the entire wine holder.

9
Paint the wine holder with your choice of medium. You can stain, paint or add oil to the wine holder after you finish sanding it down to make the surface smooth.

10
Place the bottle of wine through the hole. You will need to balance the bottle of wine with the holder until it stays steady. When inserting the wine bottle into the hole, make sure that the hole is at the top and the slanted bottom remains as a base support.
