Installation Instructions of Kitchen Sink Basket Strainer
Datetime:2015-02-27 Hits:
The kitchen sink basket strainer acts as a filter to prevent debris from entering the plumbing system and clogging the drain pipes. The strainer basket sits at the base of the sink and the underside of it attaches to the drain pipes. After continued use, the sink basket can begin leaking, which could require replacing the basket. This task will require about an hour of time and a few tools.
Instructions
1
Remove the slip nut connecting the drain pipe to the base of the strainer basket beneath the sink. The slip nut has a circular shape and and grooves around the edge. Sometimes the slip cannot be loosened by hand. Use water-pump pliers if necessary. Pull the slip away from the pipe once it is loosened.
2
Unscrew and remove the slip nut that connects the drain pipe to the wall pipe. Pull off the slip nut once it is loosened. Hand twist the drain pipe or use the water-pump pliers if necessary and move it to the side.
3
Loosen the basket's assembly lock nut with a basket strainer wrench. This is located on the base of the sink and secures the basket assembly to the sink. Pull the basket assembly away from the top of the sink.
4
Scrape away any remaining putty from where the old sink basket was positioned.
5
Cover the underside of the lip of the new basket with plumber's putty. The lip is on the outside of the basket and sets against the sink.
6
Set the new strainer basket in place in the middle of the sink. Tighten the lock nut to the base of the basket with a wrench. Crouch below the sink in order to do this.
