Install a Range-Hood Fan Filter
Datetime:2013-06-27 Hits:
Range hood fans suck odors and smoke from your cooking as well as airborne oils or grease. There are two types of range hood vents, ducted and ductless. The ducted range hood fans vent to the outside, and ductless fans recirculate the air after it is filtered. Both types of range hoods have a filter to prevent oil and grease from getting into the blower fan and ductwork. There are several styles of range hoods and filters; some fan filters slide in, and some are held by screws. The filters can be removed for cleaning or replacing. There are two types of filters -- metal mesh and charcoal. Range hoods have the option for both types of filters.
Instructions
1
Determine the type of filter you need for your particular range hood. Usually there is a metal plate with the range hood information attached to the underneath of the range hood.
2
Slide a butter knife into the slot and push back and pull down on the filter, if there is a knife slot for your type of range hood filter. Push back and pull down, then slide the filter out of the tracks holding the filter in place, if it is the slide-in type of range hood filter. Unscrew the screw in the center of the end of the filter and the filter will drop out, if it is the screw-in type of range hood filter. Slide the tabs holding the filter in place, drop down the filter and remove the filter, if it is the slide-tab type of range hood filter.
3
Soak the filter in a degreasing solution. Rinse the solution off the filter with hot tap water. Completely dry the filter before reinstalling it into the range hood vent. Reverse the way you removed the filter to reinstall it.
