How we test barbecues--Safety and stability
Safety and stability
When it comes to cooking with hot coals and sizzling food, safety is paramount. So our testers conduct a series of stringent safety and stability tests to make sure each barbecue is safe and sturdy, and won’t topple over or spill food if it’s accidentally knocked or kicked.
The final section of our extensive lab tests involves looking at portability. We look at how heavy the barbecue is to move, and how easy it is to manoeuvre. We consider whether it has a dedicated transport handle to help with lifting and wheeling, and whether any part of the barbecue, particularly its shelves, are likely to be obstructive to legs and feet. We assess portability from the perspective of both an able-bodied user and a user of below-average strength.
