How to build a metal firewood rack
If you live someplace cold, you may keep firewood for the wintertime to keep your home warm or for nostalgic reasons. A firewood rack is designed to hold logs outdoors, and is especially useful if you have only a small number of logs.
There are many ways to make a firewood rack yourself, and different materials have different merits. Metal, though it can corrode, is very sturdy and strong enough to hold a large amount of wood.
Determine the width, height and length for your firewood rack. You need four pipes that are the width of the rack, two that are the length and four that are the height. Fit the two pipes that are the length of the rack and two of the ones that are the width into the three-way pipe joints to form a flat rectangle. You need three-way joints that form an angle, not a T. The remaining open end of each joint must face up.
Fit a pipe that is the height of your rack into the open end of each three-way pipe joint. This will hold the wood logs in place.
Fit an elbow shaped pipe joint over each end of the unconnected pipes. Turn the elbow joints to face one another and put the two remaining pipes that are the width of the rack into the elbows, connecting the unconnected pipes on the short sides of the rack. This adds some stability to the rack.
