How to Replace a Coffee Press Filter Screen

French press coffeemaker Filter Screen separate the solid grains from the liquid as it passes through the coffee grinds to make coffee. You may need to replace the Filter Screen to change it to a smaller sieve filter, or because it is damaged. French press coffee makers use Filter Screen usually made of stainless steel. Filter Screen have a larger sieve than paper coffee filters which lets more sediment enter the coffee, making it more robust.

Instructions

Take the old coffee Filter Screen off by removing the lid and press plunger assembly from the French press container. Unscrew the fastener at the bottom of the plunger tube. Take the cross plate fitting, the spiral plate and the Filter Screen off and separate them.

Stack the parts back up with the cross plate top first, then fit the center of the new Filter Screen around the center of the cross plate. Place the spiral plate around the center of the cross plate sticking through the center of the Filter Screen.

Turn this assembly upside down and push it back onto the plunger assembly tube with the cross plate facing up.

Screw the fastener back on to the bottom of the plunger assembly tube tightly with your hand, and push the whole plunger assembly back into the French press container.
