How to Make a Wall Magazine Rack
If you receive magazines each month or have a collection of favorites, you may have noticed that they look unsightly piled on a table or stand. When the magazines are piled, they are often damaged as well. Magazine racks are a great way to both protect and neatly store your magazines.
Instructions
1 Using the tape measure, measure and mark one piece of wood for the back that is 24-by-25 inches. Measure and mark one piece 6-by-24 inches for the front. Measure and mark two pieces to be 3-by-6 inches. Measure and mark one piece that is 3 ½-by-25 inches.
2 Use a skill saw to cut the wood to size. Cut along the measured and marked lines carefully. As you cut each piece, make sure to label what it is.
3 Lay the pieces out. The large board is the back board which the box will be adhered to. It is the back of the box. It will hang on the wall. Stand it up in that position while you fit the pieces together. The small side pieces go on the outside ends of the front. The bottom of the box goes underneath the box, to the edges of the sides.
4 Use the wood glue and the clamps to put the box together. Run beads of glue on the ½-inch thickness of the wood where the pieces meet. Leave the wood clamps on for the entire amount of required drying time specified by the manufacturer of the glue you are using. Dry times vary from 30 minutes to 8 hours. If you take the wood clamps off too soon, your project may fall apart.
5 Use small nails and a hammer to attach a picture hanger on the back side 4 ½ inches in from the side and ½-inch down from the top edge. The hangers are 16 inches apart. The studs in your home are 16 inches apart. Hang the rack by inserting screws into the studs of the wall where you want the rack. If the rack is hung using picture hangers, slip them onto the screws that are in the studs. The rack will hold many magazines securely.
