How to Make a Vintage Dish Rack
Dry your dishes the stylish way by racking them on a homemade vintage dish rack. Vintage dish racks and other wooden vintage items are made with hardwood. Hardwoods like oak, maple and walnut are strong and durable woods that, when crafted, result in quality products that can last for decades. Build your own vintage dish rack using aged hardwood boards and dowels. Aged hardwood will give your dish rack a vintage look right from the start.
Instructions
1 Drill ten 14-inch holes that are 12-inch deep in each 20-inch piece of hardwood so they are spaced 34 inch apart. The centers of these holes are 1 inch away from each 20-inch edge on one of the 2-by-20-inch sides.
2 Drill two 12-inch holes that are also 12-inch deep into each 20-inch piece of hardwood so they are 1 inch away from the ends of the board and perpendicular to the first set of holes that were drilled. The centers of these holes are each 12 inch away from the 20-inch edges of the boards.
3 Lay the two boards flat and parallel, so the 12-inch holes are facing each other and aligned. The 14-inch holes on each board are facing up for this task. Connect the two boards by gluing a 12-inch dowel into each pair of holes that are facing each other. Glue a 14-inch dowel into each of the 14-inch holes and wipe off any excess glue with your tack cloth. Let the glue dry according to the instructions listed on the package.
