How to Make a Desk Organizer

You can make a desk organizer using recycled materials to clear up clutter. Not only is this economical, but it will save resources from ending up in a landfill. A desk organizer doesn't just work on a desk; you can also make one to organize incoming mail or kitchen utensils. An organizer works well near the front door to place your wallet, cell phone and keys in. Decorate it to match your office or room's style and no one will ever know its humble beginnings.

Instructions

1 Collect your boxes. You will need two small boxes, such as what instant pudding or gelatin comes in. You will need two medium boxes, such as macaroni and cheese boxes.

2 Cut the top 1 inch off the top of your small boxes (where they have been opened). Cut the top third from the medium boxes.

3 Cut a strip of paper as wide as your coffee can is tall and long enough to wrap around the can with a 1 inch overlap. Wrap it around the can and glue in place with your craft glue.

4 Cut strips of paper as wide as each of your boxes is tall and long enough to wrap around them. Glue them onto each box with craft glue. You do not need to cover the bottoms.

5 Hot glue a medium box to each side of the coffee can. Hot glue a small box to the outside of each medium box. Make sure the openings are on top.

6 Store pens, scissors, rulers and other office supplies in the coffee can. Paperclips and other small supplies can be kept in the small boxes, and the medium boxes are just the right size for organizing your mail and memos.

Tips & Warnings
Fill a homemade desk organizer with office supplies for an economical gift for a college-bound student. Wallpaper scraps and shelving paper can be used to cover the organizer components.
