How to Install a Bathroom Magazine Rack
Most bathrooms are at a premium on space. When personal care items and home decor items take up the majority of space in the room, adding another fixture can be difficult. However, if the new fixture saves space and creates an aesthetically pleasing environment, one might choose to add it anyway. Hanging a magazine rack can save you space without compromising your decor. To install a magazine rack, you need only to follow a few preparatory steps.
Determine the location in which you wish to hang the rack.
Use a tape measure to determine the wall's height in that area; note the measurement.
Use the height measurement to find the center of the wall. Mark the spot with a fine point marker.
Wash the area of the wall where the magazine rack is to be hung with a damp sponge and a non-abrasive cleaning solution. Remove any dirt, leaving only a clean surface. This is especially important for racks which use adhesives to aid in hanging. Let the area dry completely.
Find the wall studs in the area with the stud finder and mark their positions on the wall with the marker. It is essential to fasten the magazine rack to a firm anchor; wall studs provide adequate hanging integrity for long-lasting use.
Use the tape measure to measure the distance between screw holes on the magazine rack.
Stretch the tape measure to this measurement and place it above the mark noting where you wish the rack to be hung.
Mark either end of the length on the wall. This will indicate where the mounting screws will be inserted into the wall. Position the marks over walls studs, if possible.
Drill holes in the marked spots with a cordless drill. Use a drill bit recommended by the magazine rack manufacturer.
Place the magazine rack against the wall and align the magazine rack mounting holes with the drill holes in the wall.
Insert the mounting screws through the rack into the wall and tighten the screws with the cordless drill.
Place some magazines in the newly installed rack to ensure it is properly affixed to the wall.
