How to Infuse Fruit Tea
Fruit teas come in a variety of nuanced flavors. From tart berry blends to sweet cinnamon orange spice concoctions, there's something for everyone to enjoy. The natural sweetness of fruit and spices brewed with fresh, filtered water provides a sweet drink free of refined sugar - and the disadvantageous effects that come with it. Fine mesh infusers deliver the most flavor to your cup of tea without allowing loose tea pieces to ruin your drink.
Instructions
Tea Bag Filters
1 Buy a package of chlorine-free, unbleached paper tea bag filters which allow you to create your own tea bags. Tea bags provide a fine filter allowing the flavor of your loose fruit tea to saturate the water without releasing leaves and dried fruit pieces into your cup.
2 Lift the flap on the top of the paper tea bag. Measure out 1 to 2 tsp. of your favorite loose-leaf fruit tea and gently pour it into the bag. Press the top flap shut and seal the top seam shut with a warm iron or stapler.
3 Boil one cup of filtered water in the microwave or on the stove top. Place your tea bag at the bottom of the cup and hold it there with a spoon while you pour the just-boiled water over the bag. Steep the tea for 5 to 8 minutes. Remove the tea bag and throw it away and enjoy.
Tea Basket Infuser
4 Purchase a teapot with a glass, ceramic or plastic tea basket that fits inside the pot. Look for a tea basket with a fine metal mesh covering all sides and the bottom of the basket area, as opposed to one with holes only at the bottom of the basket.
5 Pour loose leaf fruit tea into the tea basket according to the number of cups you wish to brew (about 1 tbsp. per cup of water).
6 Fill your tea pot or large travel cup with near-boiling water, and place the tea basket inside of the pot or cup. Allow the tea to steep for 5 to 8 minutes. Remove the tea basket from the pot or cup and enjoy.
