How to Hang Metal Flower Baskets
Datetime:2014-02-03 Hits:
Metal Flower Baskets need a strong support point from which to hang. The size and thickness of the metal container will affect its weight and which tools you use to hang the basket. Horizontal hanging from a ceiling or window frame requires a sturdy hook for hanging the Metal Flower Baskets. If you decide to hang the Metal Flower Baskets off a vertical surface, you first need to attach a bracket or hook.
Instructions
1
Prepare the horizontal surface for your hook in wood. If the ceiling or window frame is made from a solid piece of wood, drill a pilot hole with your electric drill and a drill bit that is a size smaller than the diameter of your hook's threaded shaft.
2
Drill a pilot hole for the wall anchor if you're planning to attach the metal basket under a window eave or ceiling made out of sheetrock. Use a heavy-duty toggle or molly bolt because all of the weight from the hanging Metal Flower Baskets will be supported by this anchor and its hook counterpart. Put on your safety glasses. Drill a pilot hole using a drill bit that's the same diameter as the anchor you are using. Place the anchor in the hole and tap with a hammer until it is flush with the surface.
3
Attach the hook to the pilot hole in wood or the anchor in sheetrock. If you have a pilot hole in wood, screw in the threaded hook with your hands and a piece of leather or gloves for grip and torque or screw the hook directly into the anchor to open up its locking mechanism on the other side of the sheetrock.
4
Prepare the vertical surface for your hook or bracket. If the wall or vertical surface is made of sturdy wood, drill a pilot hole for the hook or bracket screws into the wood using an electric drill and a drill bit one size smaller than the diameter of the hook or screws you are using.
5
Drill a pilot hole for the wall anchor if you are attaching the hook or bracket to a sheetrock wall. Use an electric drill and a drill bit that is the same diameter as the wall anchor you are using. The overall weight of your metal flower basket will determine the type of wall anchor you use. If it is big and heavy, use a toggle bolt or a molly bolt. If the basket is light and small, use a plastic wall plug or a large thread plastic anchor. Place the anchor in the hole and tap with a hammer until it is flush with the wall.
6
Attach the hook or Metal Flower Baskets to the wall or vertical surface. Brackets either hang on screws sticking out of the wall or are attached to the wall with screws through holes in their surface. Attach the bracket to the wall using the electric drill, a Phillips-head attachment and screws. Screw the hook into the pilot hole or wall anchor by hand using a piece of leather or gloves.
