How to Clean a White Sink Drain Basket
Datetime:2012-10-07 Hits:
White sinks with drain baskets seem to magnify stains due to the light-colored surface. As food is prepared over the sink and dishes are washed, stains accumulate in the drain basket and cause it to look less-than-appealing. While commercial products will remove the stains from the drain basket, they also introduce chemicals into your home environment. Home remedies safely remove the stains and cost less than their commercial counterparts.
Instructions
1
Place the dish drain basket in a bowl. Cover it with white vinegar and allow it to soak for 15 to 30 minutes to loosen stains caused by grease and food.
2
A dish scrubber cleans inside grooves and crevices. Sprinkle a damp dish scrubber with baking soda. Lift the drain basket out of the vinegar soak. Scrub the inside and outside of the drain basket with the baking soda to remove stains.
3
Rinse the drain basket by holding it under running water. Dry both sides with a clean kitchen towel before setting back in the drain.
Tips & Warnings
A commercial cleanser made with soft scrubbing ingredients that contains bleach effectively cleans a stained drain basket.
After preparing foods or washing dishes, give the drain basket a quick scrub, rinse and dry upside-down on a clean towel. By keeping on top of stains, you can prevent them from building up.
Use only white vinegar for cleaning, as apple cider vinegar may cause stains on certain surfaces.
