How to Clean a Porcelain Barbecue Grill Grate
Steel and cast-iron grill grates are often coated with porcelain to prevent food from sticking to the grates. Porcelain barbecue grates contain heavy inner metal cores and crossbars with narrow spaces in between, which provide better-quality grilled foods. It is essential to clean the grill grates after each use, to remove accumulated barbecue sauce and other food gunk. While porcelain grill grates are simple to maintain, they are prone to chipping. Certain supplies are most effective at cleaning porcelain grill grates.
Instructions
1 Remove the porcelain grill grate from the grill. Place the grill grate on a stable piece of plywood.
2 Fill a plastic container halfway with hot water. Pour 2 squirts of liquid dishwashing soap into the hot water.
3 Dampen a washcloth in the soapy solution. Rub the dampened washcloth over the grill grate, to remove most of the residue.
4 Dampen a soft brass-bristled brush in the soapy solution. Scrub the brush over the grill grate, to remove the remaining food residue.
5 Rinse the grill grate with clean water. Dry the grill grate thoroughly with a clean towel.
