How to Clean Burn Marks Off of a Barbecue Grill
If you notice flaky burn marks falling inside the grill, you can remove them without purchasing commercial products. The flakes actually consist of accumulated smoke and residue that seasons the grill so that the food has a charred flavor. The flakes can build up over time and become a nuisance. Grill grates and the interior of the grill are also prone to burn marks that can ruin the appearance of the cooking appliance.
Instructions
1 Heat the grill on high to remove burn marks off the grill racks. After the grill heats for 15 minutes, scrape the racks with a grill brush to remove the burned food and grease.
2 Allow the grill to cool completely. Remove the grill grates and soak them in warm and soapy water to remove any remaining residue.
3 Leave the grill open. Scrub underneath the grill lid with a grill brush to remove the buildup from smoke and grease. Remove the remaining residue with warm soapy water and a nylon scrub pad.
4 Scrub on the inside of the grill with a stiff wire brush. Wipe the inside of the grill down with a damp washcloth.
5 Remove the grill drip pan. Scrub on the pan with a grill brush to remove burn marks. Rinse the pan off with a garden hose.
6 Wipe the exterior of the grill down with warm and soapy water. Remove burn marks on the exterior by scrubbing on them with a nonabrasive sponge.
7 Place everything back into the grill. Spray the cooking racks with a nonstick spray to prevent food from sticking.
