How to Build an Easy Wine Rack
Turn cans or cardboard tubes into a modern DIY wine rack. Using recycled cans makes this a green project with a modern look that compliments many styles of decorating. Paint the cans a bright color to add a sense of whimsy, or leave them silver for an industrial edge.Instructions
1 Choose metal cans that are at least 3 1/2 inches in diameter, but not so big that wine bottles won't sit securely in them. You may use cans all the same size, or in two or three sizes to accommodate different bottle sizes.
2 Remove the labels and both the tops and the bottoms from each can. Clean each can thoroughly. Use spray paint formulated for metals to paint the inside and outside of each can if desired. Allow the paint to dry.
3 Use strong epoxy glue to connect cans to make each level of the rack. Do not attach the levels to each other yet. With the cans laying on a flat surface, glue the sides of two cans together and hold them in place with clothespins, then add a third can to the second and clamp those together as well. Continue until you have three sets of three. Let the glue dry.
4 Stack the second layer of glued cans on top of the first, staggering the cans so one on top fits in the juncture between two below it; one will hang off the end. Glue together and use clothespins to clamp in place. Repeat with the third level, attaching it to the second level so that the third is even with the first. Allow the glue to dry before removing all clothespins.
