How to Build a Wall Wine Glass Rack
If you serve wine frequently to your guests, you will want a glass holder in your dining room. A wall-mounted wineglass rack is an ideal rack for placing above a hutch or sideboard table. The convenience of simply reaching for glasses will allow you to pull off a sophisticated evening effortlessly. Make a conversation piece by building your own wall-mounted wineglass rack. A few pieces of wood and some basic tools are all you need to create an effective rack with a shelf above for a small art piece or cork collection.
Instructions
1 Place the 1-by-12-by-24-inch oak board on a work surface. Measure and mark the board at 6, 12, and 18 inches. This is the rack support board.
2 Place a 1-by-2-by-12-inch oak board on a work surface. Align a 1/2-by-1/2-by-12-inch oak board in the center of first board so that they are parallel. Do this for all six boards. These are the slot assemblies for the rack.
3 Place two slot assemblies on each pencil mark on the rack support board. The assemblies should span the width of the support board. Place the 1/2-inch side of the assembly down. Leave a 3/4-inch space between the two assemblies. This will allow the stems of the glasses to slide between them. Drive finish nails into the assemblies to attach them to the support board. Space the nails evenly every 2 inches. The nails should go down through the center of both slot assembly boards into the support board.
4 Sand the wineglass rack with fine-grit sandpaper. Sand with the grain.
5 Apply a wood finish. Allow the finish to dry before handling.
6 Select a place to mount the rack on a wall. Align the brackets 22 inches apart on the wall. Mark the holes with a pencil. Screw the brackets to the wall.
7 Center the rack on the brackets. Screw the brackets to the bottom of the rack.
8 Slide the glasses underneath the rack between the slot assemblies.
