How to Build a Metal Barbecue Grill
You can make a metal barbecue grill from a tire rim, providing a permanent fixture in your backyard that will provide a focal point for summer get-togethers or cookouts. To prevent potential fire hazards, it is important to build your grill away from the house or trees. Almost anyone can complete this project.
Instructions
1 Pour gravel onto the ground and smooth it out with your hands until the patch is at least 2 to 3 inches deep, not revealing any grass or other materials. The patch must also be large enough to fit the metal tire rim in its entirety.
2 Place the metal tire rim on top of the gravel patch and surround the perimeter of the rim with large stones.
3 Pour 8 to 10 lbs. of ready-light charcoal into the grill.
4 Place the grill grate on top of the rim so that it rests securely on top. Ideally, the grate should be 1 or 2 inches larger than the tire rim.
5 Light the charcoal with a grill lighter and allow the charcoal to burn for at least 20 minutes, until the coals are red-hot and the flame has died.
6 Arrange the food on top of the grill grate and grill until cooked through or to your liking.
