How do I Clean Kitchen Oven Racks
When food and grease drip onto an oven rack, it can create a sticky mess. The food and grease leaves behind grime on the racks, and it will eventually smell when you use your oven. Oven racks need regular cleaning to remove the grease and grime so that the oven racks remain in good condition. Instead of using a harsh oven cleaner, you can clean the oven racks with ammonia. Ammonia will not release harsh fumes, and it is a natural alternative to commercial cleaners.
Instructions
1 Fill a pan with 1 cup of ammonia. Place the pan in the oven under the racks overnight. The fumes will loosen grease and grime stuck to the racks.
2 Wipe the racks with a damp cloth. Rinse the cloth to remove any grease that builds up. If you still notice a considerable amount of dirt and grease, you will need to treat the oven racks again.
3 Remove the oven racks and place them in a garbage bag. Pour 1 cup of ammonia into the garbage bag and tie it shut. Place the bag outdoors or in your garage out of the way overnight.
4 Take the oven racks out of the garbage bag. Wipe them off with a damp cloth. If you still have stubborn grease, you will need to soak the oven racks.
5 Fill the bathtub with 3 to 4 inches of warm water. Add 2 tsp. of dish detergent and ½ cup of vinegar. Soak the oven racks overnight in the bathtub, and wipe them clean with a washcloth. Replace the oven racks back into the oven.
