Do It Yourself Magazine Rack

Magazines can quickly add up to a lot of clutter, especially if more than one subscription arrives at your door or the magazine comes every week. Hanging a magazine rack on the wall or on a door allows you to organize reading material without taking up a lot of space. Even something as simple as string or wire threaded between two pieces of wood provides ample storage. Hanging one magazine per line keeps the rack uncluttered.

Instructions
Making the Parts
1 Draw a diagonal line from one corner to the other on the wide side of one of the 1-by-4s.

2 Write an "X" at the point where the diagonal line is one-half inch away from the side. Mark an X every two inches along the diagonal line. This results in nine X's drawn.

3 Place the 1-by-4 flat on top of another 1-by-4 with the diagonal line facing up. Align the two boards exactly with each other. Clamp, or tape them together.

4 Drill holes completely through both boards on the X's. This will result in two boards with nine aligned holes running diagonally from one end to the other.

5 Paint or stain all the boards and let them dry.

Assembling the Parts
6 Stand a 1-by-4 with holes on its 1-inch edge. Place a 1-by-4 without holes flat on its 4-inch side on top of the lower board to form a 90-degree angle. Align the top board with the edge and ends of the board below it. Attach the boards together with two screws placed two inches from each end of the top board. Repeat the process with the other two 1-by-4s.

7 Mount each set of perpendicular boards vertically to the wall 14 inches apart by screwing one screw one inch from the bottom and another one inch from the top of the 1-by-4s with no holes. Orient each set so the holes closest to the wall are on the top end and those farther away on the bottom.

8 Cut lines made of wire, rope, cords or nylon string into nine 16-inch segments.

9 Thread each 16-inch line through a hole on the left board and across to the corresponding hole on in the board on the right side.

10 Attach buttons, beads or tassels to each end of each line to secure it in place. For a simpler look, just tie a knot on the ends.
