Cut Wire Shelving

Datetime:2015-09-16 Hits:

Wire shelving can be an excellent choice for your projects because of its versatility. It is strong, light, easy to keep clean, and able to be cut to virtually any length. Because you can cut wire shelving to fit your plans, you can use it in many different shelf designs and locations. Cutting wire shelving takes a bit of work, but can be done either by hand or with a power saw.

Instructions
Place your piece of wire shelving across two sawhorses so it's at a good height to cut. Clamp the shelving securely to the sawhorses in several spots. Hint: Place a piece of wooden board, like a scrap piece of 2x4, on top of the wire shelving and use your clamp on top of it. This will give you something solid to clamp down upon. Keep the board away from where you'll be cutting and take it off when you remove the clamp.

Measure the shelving and make a mark at the spot you want to cut.

Use a straight edge to draw the cut line across the wire shelving. A felt-tip marker works well.

Cut the shelving along the cut line. If you're using a power saw, be sure the blade is designed for cutting metal. If you're doing the job by hand, use a hacksaw with a metal-cutting blade.

When the shelving is cut to length, smooth any rough edges with a file.
