Connect the Clips for Steel Shelving

Datetime:2014-05-26 Hits:

Steel wire shelving is incredibly versatile since the clip system allows the shelves to be positioned at any height on the vertical support bars. Each vertical support bar has a series of grooves that allow the plastic clips to grip tight and hold the shelves in place. When the clips are installed correctly they will support up to 800 pounds.

Instructions
1
Position the bottom shelf where you want it to be (or close enough that you can easily slide it into place once it's assembled). Insert the support rods through the holes on the shelf. The bottom shelf should be positioned as low as possible.

2
Lift the shelf up to two inches above the level of where you want it to sit. Attach the sides of the plastic clips to the support rod with the wider part at the bottom and the narrower part at the top. Settle the clip into a groove in the support bar.

3
Count the number of grooves from the bottom to the first clip. Lift the other corners of the shelf and put the clips on the same number of grooves from the bottom as the first clip. Once all the clips are installed lower the shelf onto the clips and pound it firmly in place with the rubber mallet. Do not use a hammer or hard pounding object directly on the shelves.

4
Check your shelf for level to make sure the clips where installed at the right height. If the shelf isn't level you can remove a clip by pounding the shelf up from the bottom with the mallet. Then re-set the clip on the correct groove on the support rod.

5
Install the clips for the next shelf by counting the number of grooves up on each support rod and matching it for all four clips. Use the level to check by placing it across the tops of the clips. Lift the next shelf over the top of the support rods and slide it down on the clips. Pound it firmly in place with the mallet. Repeat for all the shelves.
