Clean Cooker Hood Filters
Datetime:2013-06-19 Hits:
Regular cleaning of your oven and stove elements to remove grease buildup decreases the risk of a kitchen fire. One frequently overlooked component, and the easiest to clean, is the cooker hood filter. Located directly above the stove top, this aluminum or stainless steel screen protects the exhaust fan from grease splatter. Over time, this filter becomes clogged with caked-on grease. It can be tempting to dispose of the filter and replace it with a brand new one; however, the proper cleaning technique returns the filter to like-new condition without the cost of replacement.
Instructions
1
Combine 1 qt. of hot water and 1 scoop (approximately ¼ cup) of oxygen cleaner in the sink.
2
Dissolve oxygen cleaner completely in the water. Tiny bubbles will appear at the surface of the water when the solution is ready for use.
3
Remove the filter from the overhead range. Filters are often held in place by a plastic clip.
4
Place the filter in the solution-filled sink, and soak it for 15 minutes.
5
Remove any remaining grease with a bristle brush if the filter is not sparkling like new. An old toothbrush effectively eliminates grease from tiny crevices.
6
Rinse the filter under running water, air dry and replace the filter.
