Clean Wire Shelves
Coated wire shelving is an inexpensive storage solution that is commonly installed in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms and closets. The wire shelf is durable and versatile enough to be used in any size room or closet. Coated wire shelving only requires occasional cleaning, unless the shelves are used in areas where dirt and dust accumulates fairly quickly. The coated wire makes them easy to clean, which is a desirable quality in shelving used in bathrooms and kitchens.
Remove all items from the shelves.
Place an old towel or sheet beneath the metal wire shelves to prevent cleaner from dripping on the floor below.
Spray an all-purpose cleaner on the shelves and allow it to sit for two to three minutes.
Scrub the top and bottom of the wire mesh shelving with a clean sponge to remove dirt and dust. Insert the sponge between each rung to clean the sides of the rungs.
Clean sticky shelves with a citrus-based cleaner or degreaser. Spray the cleaner on the shelving and allow it to sit for two to three minutes. Wipe the shelves with a clean sponge. Clean the top, bottom and sides of the individual rungs.
Scrub the shelving brackets with a clean sponge. Spray all-purpose cleaner on the sponge and wipe the brackets to remove dirt and dust.
Dry the shelves by wiping them with paper towels or a dry towel.
