A metal shoe shelf is a fashionable option for storing several pairs of shoes in a confined space. Building a 36-inch wide metal shoe shelf is a simple task that allows you to store more than 10 pairs of shoes at a fraction of the price to purchase a shoe shelf.
Instructions
1
Measure and mark 4 inches up from the bottom of two 2-inch by 2-inch solid wood pieces and mark the location with a pencil.
2
Measure and mark 6 inches up from the bottom of the two other 2-inch by 2-inch solid wood pieces and mark the location with a pencil.
3
Measure and mark the wood pieces with the 4-inch marks every 8.67-inches, starting at the 4-inch measurement. Measure and mark the pieces with the 6-inch marks every 8-inches, starting at the 6-inch marks. There will be three marks total on each piece of wood.
4
Cut a circle at each mark using the 1-1/2-inch circle cutter. Cut to a depth of 1 inch.
5
Place the wood pieces marked at the 6-inch measurement 36 inches apart.
6
Insert three metal bars into one of the wood pieces and drill a hole through the wood straight through the metal and through the opposite side of the wood.
7
Insert one bolt into each drilled hole and place the nut on the opposite side. This will bond the bars to the pieces of wood.
8
Repeat steps 5 through 7 with the wood marked 4 inches from the bottom and the remaining three metal bars.
9
Stand the set of bars attached to the pieces marked at 6 inches 8 inches behind the set of bars attached to wood marked at 4 inches from the bottom.
10
Position one 8-inch piece of wood between each of the four corners and drive one 3-inch screw through each end. This will bond both pieces together.
