Best Way to Put Up Metal Shelves

Whether they are in a rustic farmhouse kitchen or an urban loft, metal shelves provide an excellent combination of form and function that works with many decorating styles. Because they are so easy to clean, degrease and sanitize, stainless steel shelves are especially well-suited to kitchens and bathrooms. Metal shelves can hang with visible brackets but for a truly sleek and uncluttered look, select floating shelves -- without visible support hardware.

Determine placement of the shelf. Where possible, align placement with wall stud positions.

Place the mounting bracket on the wall where the shelf will be installed. Use the level to make sure the bracket is straight.

Draw marks through the screw holes in the bracket on the wall behind. Have a second person hold the bracket if necessary, to ensure it remains level.

Locate studs with the stud finder. If a pencil mark for any of the screws does not line up with a stud, use a wall anchor to secure the bracket to the wall.
