An easy way to make the pencil holder
Is there a place for all those extra pencils? Homemade pencil holders can range from basic kids crafts to creative ways to express feelings for a special someone. Invest some time into the project to make it something the recipient will want to display. There are many ways to modify this project to fit your own unique style.
Instructions
1 Wash the empty can thoroughly, if there is any rough or jagged surfaces, discard the can and get another one.
2 Measure the outside of the empty soup can all they way around, width and height.
3 Cut out two pieces of clear contact paper in the dimensions of the can, on one of the pieces add one inch all the way around.
4 Cut out pictures from magazines that relate to what you want to get across and words that match the person you are giving the pencil holder to. If you are familiar with scrapbook techniques, apply background cut outs to the items you cut out.
5 Lay out your design on the piece of contact paper that is smaller than the other. Modify the design as you go to optimize the space available and carry the theme all the way around the holder. You may want to have all of the photos you decide to use go through the center of the layout and words and magazine cut out fill the top and bottom.
6 Glue your layout onto the contact paper once you are satisfied. Wait until it is almost dry and place the second piece of contact paper on the layout, peeling off the backing and attaching it to the layout.
7 Peel off the backing to the layout and affix it to the can, folding the extra contact paper over the edges. Trim off any excess. At this point, you can add different craft items to give the pencil holder dimension. You might also want to keep a section of the can uncovered and attach a magnet to the can. Use the magnet to hold paper clips for retrieval.
